Importance of senior year grades? Getting rescinded?

My friends seem to be very uptight about their senior year grades (especially 1st semester). But from what I have researched, it seems difficult for those grades to have a negative affect on your admission, unless you have completely tanked. For instance...

I've already been accepted by 2 schools - 1 doesn't want any transcripts unless you accept their offer, the other wants first semester senior year grades as usual

3 other schools also don't want any transcripts unless you accept their offer, but I have not been accepted to any yet (all notify in March)

So in all of these cases, the only way you would be negatively affected would be if you are rescinded based on your senior year grades (assuming you filled out the SRAR right of course) - and from my research, it seems you have to get Ds/Fs to be worried about getting rescinded. In other words, your senior year grades don't even factor in their decision. Am I right or here? Or am I developing a false sense of security?

If you do well in school then you have no problems to worry about. I mean the only reason to get good grades senior year is to skip out on the finals ;)

Lol well my senior year first semester grades have slipped a little bit from my cumulative. Nothing major I don’t think (although it’s not a miniscule drop either), my courseload has been tougher than previous years though.

Basically I get the feeling everyone at my school is really worried about their first semester grades, like it’s junior year all over again - and I’m not sure why. My point is your senior year grades don’t seem to matter unless you’re doing worse enough to possibly get rescinded. Just looking for some verification on that :)

Senior years second semester grades factor to an extent depending on the school. If you just bump a little, you are not going to have trouble with a lot of schools. If you produce a collection of Ds/Fs, you should expect that to be a problem. First semester grades matter. Schools are looking for a maturing trend. That doesnt mean you are dead in the water; just know your chances may not be what they would have been if you had not stumbled. On the other hand, since you are carrying a heavier course load, some schools will allow for that. Senior year grades DO matter.

If you keep ABCs then you’ll be fine unless you got into Harvard and got like 2-3 C’s then you might have a problem. All depends on the school

@dowzerw - I see, but with schools that don’t want any of your transcripts unless you are accepted/enroll, wouldn’t that mean they wouldn’t see your senior year grades until they receive those transcripts? And at that point, the only way they could make changes to your acceptance would be to rescind you, and like I said I thought only Ds/Fs would make that possible. This is what I’m confused about here. Doesn’t that mean if you don’t have any of those Ds or Fs (or multiple Cs) senior year, you should be in the clear?

If you “check out” but don’t fail you can still be accepted but placed on academic probation during your first semester.

I got a C in AP Calc AB, is this going to hurt me for Stanford?

kissen, yes it will. Stanford has more than its fair share of apps with straight As. It may not hurt you much but it will hurt.

How poorly does your GPA have to be before you risk getting placed on academic probation in first semester?

SDM, there is no magic formula. It would depend on the school and how different the grades for the semester are from your cum.
