Importance of Sports/Music to Adcoms

How important exactly are sports/music/“electives” to college admissions?

For example, if I am interested in a science oriented career (or any other career for that matter, as long as it isn’t music or sports oriented), how much will participating in varsity sports and getting awards for musical instruments/being in band contribute to college admissions? Is it worth it to pursue lifeguard certificates/varsity letters/musical awards/musical examination recognitions just for college admissions? Is it given that much weight?

Thanks a lot for any thoughts or response on this matter.

showing dedication to one extracurricular/curricular activity shows that you are committed to colleges. other than that, unless you are applying to a music-specific school (like, northwestern), then i personally wouldnt think there woudl be much influence.

varsity sports, however, is a different subject. lol, most colleges enjoy seeing good grades and a varsity football player in one package.

and yes, go for the awards. just shows how much more talent you are.
