I'm curious on this. I've heard it asked rarely, but it has always stuck with me. What is the importance of having something going over the summer, be it camps of sorts, to summer classes and tutoring programs, or summer athletic leagues. How important is it to have things planned out during summer breaks?

Admissions officers I know have told me, essentially, "Keep summers empty at your own peril." That doesn't mean you should do the typical summer camp, or a workshop where you don't actually learn anything, but taking classes a community college or entering into a selective summer program where you actually learn something can be important.

Oh ok. I've been thinking about it a lot becasue my summer this year has been sparse. I have band camp, my church camp that I do every year, and maybe one other thing, so I've been interested and bored out of my skull. Thanks.

Do whatever you like, really. You don't necessarily have to do camps; just really spend time doing what you want...it's a good time to relax. Albeit somewhat productively, so don't play games all day like myself as I'm doing this summer (I'm a hypocrite, yes...but I'm still in my early years xD).

Just keeping up on my physical fitness, violin practice, website work, and SAT study is taking most of my time (that and sleep.....lots of delicious sleep!).

Although I did go to Honduras for 2 weeks, SLS program at West Point for a week, and another week in NYC, all back-to-back (literally no time in between) LOL
