Importance of the Short Answer on the Common Application?

Is the short answer on the common application held in very high regard? I'm basing my personal statement around an extracurricular group already (music), and it is my most important one. Should I use the short answer to talk about a different extracurricular to show more variety or the same one to show passion? Are they going to read a lot into it creativity wise, or is it basically asking to elaborate specifically on what your activity entails (I don't want to just restate my resume though)?

bump, i'm curious about this as well

I doubt it...though mine's good.

can someone answer the question plz?

I was at a Yale information session once, and the admissions officer said he was absolutely blown away by one applicant's short answer essay about running. He said it was the most poetic 150 words he had ever read. So judging from that, I'd say yes, it's important. Don't blow it off.

Also, if you're already writing your long essay on music, pick a different activity for the short essay. There's no need to repeat yourself; you want to showcase as many different sides of you as possible.

for the short anwer where they ask you about your potential to contribute, almost everyone I know pick dedication where they take a sport or something for 4 years, and then the other half of the kids tend to talk about leadership skill. I mean beside those twos, what else is there to write about? I'm kind of stuck there? Any advice?
