Ok, so really, just how important are those essays when it comes to admissions to UCs? From what I have gathered, it seems like UCLA doesn't really care, you either have the GPA or not, and Berkeley looks like they do put some emphasis on the essays. Can anyone say a percentage though of how they think the essays weigh into the rest of the application?

i wanna know too.

dhl3 knows :P

In my opinion, the personal statements are only tipping factors for people that are less competitive. If you're GPA is below average of what has been accepted in your major, I'd suggest that you put a lot of care and attention to it.

They are supposed to be the deciding factors for those who are at the borderline.

i agree with bio guy ..... if your borderline acceptance it will probably help you out to have a compelling statement .. in general tho u should put a lot of thought to it as making your application look as good as possible will probably help your chances of getting in
