Importance of undergraduate engineering major

I have a question regarding my undergraduate engineering major. I'm looking at schools (i.e. UPenn) that may not have every specific major in engineering (i.e. they don't have Nuclear or Aerospace engineering) and I was wondering if I major in a broader topic as an undergrad, would that prepare me for a specific field in graduate school? So, for example, would a undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering prepare me for a graduate program in aerospace engineering? Thanks for any help.

P.S. if this could work, what would a good undergraduate choice be to go to graduate school in nuclear engineering?

Yes it is possible. For nuclear engineering grad school there are a few choices that would work well. MechE, EE in a program that focuses on heavy machinery, or Materials Engineering should get you to where you need to be. Perhaps ChemE or even Civil Engineering as well depending on what you intend to do with a masters in Nuclear Engineering.
