How much will it affect my chances if i get a 580 CR and a 780 Math. Like i can get really good math and science scores but suck at english and reading.
Am I doomed or will MIT focus more on my MAth and Science strenghts

MIT focuses more on math and science achievement, but most people who get in have excellent scores and grades all around.

Your math is fine, but it wouldn't hurt to do some studying and try to shoot for at least 650 CR. 680 would put you in the middle 50% range, and would be even better.

Having said that, MIT admissions officers like Ben Jones and Matt McGann have mentioned many times that SAT scores are a tiny piece of a much larger picture. They would much rather see you excel in other areas of your application than see you stress over test scores. Matt has also said that scores will never make or break an application, unless they are really bad (like 200's on each section). Don't take the test more than twice; you can do better things with your time.

This is all moot if you've already applied. In that case, you'll know your decision in 2 weeks.

What are your math and science strengths?

Are you a domestic applicant? If so, I think you can study up to get a 680+ easily, if you're obviously smart enough to get near 800 on the math.

As everybody above has said, MIT doesn't focus only on test scores.

Still, you should be aware that, according to the Common Data Set, only 4% of those admitted to the class of 2009 had an SAT verbal score of 590 or below.

hey im jsut guessing at a 780 Math b/c on ACT i got 35 math but missed one question out of stupidity. PSAT i got 57 CR so i think i can go above 600 if it is any type of prediction.
Thanks for all yalls imput ima keep working and hopefully i will be class of '11

i had a 590 math and 720 verbal, still got in.

I hope you get in because I have 580CR but 800Math! I am applying regular this year.
