I have a question-is a high test score almost guaranteed admission? For example say your GPA is 3.4 UMich, and you get a 34, 35, or 36, is that really close to being sure that you will get in? Well I guess my question is what ACT or SAT scores would I need to make up for a 3.4 or 3.5 UMich GPA? I have pretty good ECs (bunch of stuff but the main one is that I work in a lab at Umich), and my dad works at Umich as well.

I think that high of an ACT/SAT score would definitely help. I wouldn't say that it guaranteed your acceptance, but it boosts your chances greatly.

That depends. If you are in-state and took a rigorous curriculum in a competitive school, your 3.4-3.5 GPA can be compensated with a high test score...though it's not guaranteed. But if you are OOS and took an average curriculum from an average school, your GPA pretty much 'guarantees' an early deferral.

^^ Oh, I see. Thanks. I took the most rigorous curriculum at the best Public HS in Ann Arbor (Pioneer), so I guess I need a really good test score to make a 3.4 or 3.5 (depending on grades this semester) even out.

I know a friend who has a 33 ACT but pretty bad GPA (probably 3.2 UW/ 3.9 W) and he was deferred from UofM Engineering. It is a bit easier to get into LSA, but with a 3.4-3.5 GPA, assuming pretty difficult classes, you need a 31-33 at the minimum probably, 34+ to be guaranteed. I really have a sense that they factor GPA and difficult classes more than test scores in admission.
