importancee of math in hs...

how important is it to take hard&rigorous math courses in high school... ive taken alg1 hnrs and got a C and B... nd i took geometry hnrs and got 2 Cs.... and now since the school year has started(3 days ago) im in algebra 2 hnrs... and do not wanna take it cuz i kno ill have a hard time... would dropping out of hnrs affect my chances of gettin in2 a good college or wat... thankz

Well, you HAVE to take at least 3 years of math.

Algebra 2 as a Junior is really not considered rigorous, it's normal, honors or not. Take it.

well yea i know i have to take atleast 3 years, but i was wondering if it actually made a difference if i took honors or not....

Wow.. someone is either joking or really oblivious to college admissions. Even if you want to major in something completely unrelated to math like humanities or art, you nreed to take 4 years of math. Your highschool guidance counselor should not let you drop.

It is probably better to take normal if you think you're going to do bad in honors. It's better to get an A in a normal math class than a C in honors. Also if you obtain a D in honors, it doesn't count as a weighted class anymore either so better to stick with the one you're more confident with.

Well if you are really bad at math, i guess take the easiest class you can. I was bad at math too and my major has nothing to do with math, so AP Calc BC was the last math I took (senior year) If your major has nothing to do with math, it'll be one of the last math classes you'll ever take so i would say take the most difficult one you can... i mean i HATE math with a passion (although i did take AP -_-;;) but it's kinda sad that i'll never have math classes again. hm.

But yeah, Alg 2 at junior isn't really vigorous... but like the above person said, better getting an A at normal than C-D at honors.

^You're "really bad", but graduated with AP Calc BC? Please shut up. Haha.

I consider myself "bad at math" being in AP Calc AB senior year. But then I remember that I'm still in a higher math class than 80% of my grade. Which makes us NOT bad at math, even though we think so surrounded by our super smart, over-achieving friends.

Anyway, as far as dropping down to reg? I seriously doubt it will affect how colleges you view you. I think they will see "Algebra II honors" and "Algebra regular" as pretty much on grade level math no matter how you look at it. Also, it is NOT worth it to risk getting a C or D.

Most colleges ask for three years of math, not four. The ones that recommend four (or expect to see that many from competitive applicants) are the highly selective places from what I've been able to see.

if you major in a non-math/non-science major than ur good to go with 3 years...also it depends which college you apply to.
