Field Day: 2 July 08

Warrior March out of Jacks Valley 26 July 08

BCT Complete: 2 Aug 08 @ TAPS

Acceptance Parade: 6 Aug 08

parents weekend is 28 AUG - 2 SEPT 08

correct? ???

Wouldn't field day be July 12th? - I thought that it was just before doolie day out. Also, is it worthwhile for parents to make the trip for the Acceptance parade?

what happens between getting back from jack's and acceptance?

Parent's Weekend is Aug 29 - Sept 1 according to the USAFA website. Most families will arrive Thur Aug 28th and depart Tues Sept 2nd.

Field day is a typo - it's Sat July 12th, just before Doolie Day out. Thanks soaringhi.

Are parents allowed at the acceptance parade? Also, what happens for the cadet between acceptance parade and the beginning of school?

HNeedle, those couple of days are essentially for transitioning into the academic year. Your cadre will teach you things you'll need to know as four degrees.

Molta, parents are allowed at the acceptance parade, but realize that you'd probably only have about two hours with your new cadet. School begins on the following day.

If parent's weekend starts on the 29th; Friday; does that mean as soon as they wake up or is it officially at say 3pm??????

Also; on parent's weekend, do many of the cadets still stay in their dorm each night, or do they leave with their parents???? I already have a room reserved on base at the BOQ for me and my wife. Not sure if there is a 2nd bed or not if my son wanted to stay there. Normally we stay in the TLF on base which is more like an apartment with a couple of bedrooms, kitchen, living room, etc... Didn't even think about this when we reserved the room. Anyway, info is appreciated.

Last year they released the 4* after the football game Saturday afternoon. We picked potter up on Friday night and drove back to Denver. Next morning dropped her off at the Squadron Tailgate party. When the game was over we left CS until Monday evening.

The housing situation is impossible for PW. The hotels all get booked up. How you got a reservation at the TLF I will never know but be greatfull, usually to full on that weekend.

Potter slept most of Sunday and we sis some light shopping on Monday. They are so exhuasted from BCT it is just about rest. We did hit the chain food places so she could try food she had missed for a few weeks. Mom cooked a meal that was also very welcome.

CC about the pick up on Friday it was after a meet and greet at her Squadron around 18:00 when we got to go.

They have scheduled activities all day Friday including a parade, parents can also attend classes, and even have lunch at Mitch's with your cadet.

Christcorp--most cadets do not stay in the dorms--they want to get as far away from the academy as possible--don't be surprised if your cadet does not want to take you on the tour of Jacks Valley--(we didn't get the tour of Jack's Valley until 2C year). That first parents weekend they want to eat, watch movies, sleep and get out of their uniforms. Our cadet was very proud to show us his room, intorduce his roomates and have us shadow him for his classes. However, as soon as he had the chance to get away, he was ready to go!

If it is possible, I would suggest going to the Acceptance Day Parade. We went last year, and even though we only got to spend a couple hours with our son after the parade, it was worth it. It is the first time that we had seen him since he left for COS for I-Day. We did not go with him to I-Day.

The whole experience of seeing your son or daughter as part of the cadet wing, and marching in the parade is an experience that you will never forget.

Our son was also very happy to see us, and to spend a little time alone. We ordered box lunches from our hotel the night before the parade, and they had them ready for us in the morning before we headed for the Academy. We kept them in a cooler in the car. This saved a ton of time that we got to use visiting, rather than standing in line at one of the few restaurants available on base. We just got the lunches out of the car and went inside the fieldhouse, found a spot in the hockey arena seats, and spent the whole two hours talking to our son.

I realize that not everyone can make multiple trips out to the Academy in a year, but if it is possible for you, I would recommend going to the Acceptance Day Parade.

We attended Acceptance Day also. Great memories of the parade, seeing son in blues for the first time and Hornetguy pinning on his shoulder boards. We also brought a picnic lunch to maximize our time together. It was all very new to us.

My mom came for Acceptance Day last year. I was absolutely thrilled to see her (almost as much as she was to see me!).

I've been down to the academy a lot in the last couple of months. I know that Public Affairs book up most of the rooms, especially on that weekend. but they then release a lot of the rooms. You just have to check often. Also, I don't know if Military has any priority. Either way; I have a billeting room available for the 29th through the 1st. It's not the TLF, but regular BOQ. Not sure if it's just a queen bed or if there's 2 beds in there. I've never stayed their before. Only the tlf. I'd like for my son to be able to get away from the dorm for the weekend totally.

Question; if worst comes to worst, and there isn't an extra bed in there, instead of my son staying in his dorm each night, how far away can we take them from the academy. I.e. We live about 2 hours away. 160 miles. Can we take him home after the football game????? Thanks.....

heehee, i'm from california, and those are a fast 2 hours ;)
teasing

Technically, going outside the 150 mile radius requires AOC approval. I think that has a legitiment chance of being approved though, since some people even go home for PW (that's pretty hard to do though).

CC having lived in Cheyenne myself, and knowing the drive. Really shouldn't be a problem (other than the drive) That long stretch between Cheyenne and FC...well you know. Like Falcon said just have him get the AOC permission. It will give him a chance to sleep in the car. He may not get out until even later depending on what the Football team requires of him though.

The distance will be good, and he can quickly change into his clothes at home. Potter had clothes in Denver, but wouldn't take the chance on wearing them outside the house. She was in service dress at Olive garden and the Chinese buffet we went to.

Maybe yopu can hit whatever the old Sea Galley outside the Frontier Mall has become. There was a good steak house just north of town on I-25...probably gone now.

Thanks for the info ds. I will play it by ear. I will check with the coach as far as football goes. I know that many times before a home game, the team is required to "Disappear". They get them away and their mind into a certain way of thinking. As such, I'm sure that I won't be able to get my son away on Friday. The team will most likely have him. As far as Saturday after the game, we'll have to see. I will contact my son AFTER "A" day and have him check in on it. Not sure if the team will have practice on Monday or not.

As far as Cheyhigh goes; there is only a Red Lobster near the mall for seafood. But many, many, other places popping up. As for the steak house; it's still there. "Little Bear Inn". About 5-7 miles north of the city.

Anyway; we'll see how things go. If my son has to stay in town, and our billeting room only has 1 bed; I'll bring sleeping bags and Mom and I can sleep on the floor and let our son have the bed. It's the least we could do. we'll just have to play it by ear.
