Important, the deadline is approaching and I need to know, If i dont apply for financial aid for freshman year, can I still once I am in sophomore year, and do that again for the 3rd and 4th years of UNI.

One member stated that it depends on uni's... can u please give examples on private unis that do allow that .

You need to check with the schools you are interested in applying to.

If you are eligible for FAFSA (US citizen or eligible non citizen such as green card holder) most FAFSA only schools will allow you to apply the second year. If you are an international student schools that are not need blind for internationals probably will not allow you to apply for aid in future years if you have said you are not going to apply for aid. Obviously this is because they do not want to accept someone because they do not need aid only to find out they do.

As I said - you need to check with the schools you are interested in for their specific policies. Posters here on CC can give you generalized answers but we do not have lists of schools and their policies at our fingertips. You have to do a little research on your own.

It depends on the school. You need to check with EACH school. Some schools are very clear...if you do not apply for financial aid your freshman year, you will not be able to do so in subsequent years. I don't know whether schools can make this stipulation for federal aid, but they absolutely can and some DO for institutional aid. Contact the college(s) and ask them.

As far as I know, you would be eligible for federal aid. I don't believe the school can keep you from getting Pell, ACG, SMART, or Stafford loans if you qualify (as long as the school does participate in federal aid programs). They don't have to give you the campus based federal aid, though (SEOG, work study, Perkins). They also don't have to give you any institutional aid.

You can always fill out the FAFSA. You can even, at this moment, fill out the 2008-09 FAFSA and see if you qualify for aid for the semester that started in Sept. 2008. The federal government can award that aid (such as a Pell Grant or Stafford loan) back to that date. Meanwhile you can fill out the 2009-10 FAFSA to see if you'll qualify for aid for the semester starting Sept. 2009.
Why are you not applying for aid this year? If you apply the first year, you will not need to worry whether or not you can apply in subsequent years - you will know that you can.
