important dates for accepted freshman

im going to Europe for a large portion of the summer and want to know what the important dates are for freshman attending USC in the fall. all i know of is orientation, but just how important is orientation if i fail to make it?

also, when do classes officially start (aren't you suppose to go about half a week to a week in advance?) and when do you learn where you live/move in? lastly, when do you sign up for classes (during orientation?)

thanks so much for any help

orientation isn't mandatory, but it's strongly urged so you can meet with your advisor & schedule your classes. otherwise i think you can schedule them online after everyone else has done their schedules so you pretty much get last pick.

move in day is august 22, which is the start of welcome week. classes start august 27. i'm not 100% sure, but i think unless you have a very specific reason, you have to be there the 22nd. housing info goes out in mid-may, then you can apply for reassignment if you're unhappy... there are a few dates concerning that which i don't know, but all housing is finalized by july. detailed move-in instructions come in the beginning of august.
