I know I posted this in another thread but I wanted to get it to the top and there were post in front of mine. Plus i want to get all this paperwork done lol. Can a current student describe these as they relate to my question please.

Why is morewood E so popular?

Are the rooms in New House really that small?

Ok so what if I want a dorm with ( in order of importance) a place to study, generally quite, not a big party dorm, size, A/C

Right now I like New House. Would that fit me pretty well?

Also can you bring a air purifyer into their room.

Morewood E is popular because it has great location and the rooms are fairly large. Also there's an eating location in the basement which is open till 11pm every day, which is good because you can eat without ever having to go outside (nice in winter).

Yes, New House has small rooms. If you're living there, don't bring a lot of stuff.

New House is the only dorm that has A/C, so if you want that, your choice is made. Except for the smallness of rooms, it is a really nice dorm. I believe their lounge has the only pool table on campus that's actually level.

I don't see why an air purifier wouldn't be acceptable.

I don't mind the pool tables in Scotland Yard (UC Basement), there are usually plenty of people down there, at the very least the DDR machines are busy.

anyone have dimensions of various rooms in various buildings? Juat like to know how small "small is". My room (living it it alone) is currently 24x26ft soo yeah, hard to imagine.

can anyone describe Donner? I know the building itself is very old and worn-out but how about on the inside? how much renovation has been done? i like the fact that there are big rooms but I am not sure yet if I want to go there because I also like New House and Morewood...

My daughter is in Donner this year. The rooms were painted, new carpet, all new furniture - bed, dresser, desk and rolling file cart that she keeps her printer on. Nice rocking desk chair with upholstered seat. Big closet for each girl, but no doors on the closets so they do not look real nice, but it works.
Bathrooms were completely redone for this year. Very nice.
Windows look like the only thing not new (they appear to be original) and they are not very nice looking. But with all the other stuff being new and the size of the rooms it is not bad at all. Yes the outside is ugly, but you are living inside, so who cares?

Anyone know if HSS students get specific papers about housing? Or can we just choose the New House dorms and they will accommodate as best they can? Thanks

To second rlm919....Donner may be the singularly most ugly bldg. on campus outside, but the updates inside done last summer are great. Largest freshman rooms on campus...nice bathrooms and the common lounge areas are very nice, too. Great location for CFA and Tepper students....literally 1/2 block away.

I am going to be an RA in New House next year (and will be a jr.), lived in E-tower my first year, and know a lot about other dormitories. I can honestly say that while New House has slightly smaller rooms in comparision to other dormitory rooms, it has excellent common areas/facilities, a very active community, a great staff, and just a great feel. You might think that room size is a huge issue, but are you coming to college so that you can sit in your room or go out to meet new poeple and to make friends? Definitely put E-tower as your second choice. The rooms are bigger, but the floors are definitely more segregated than in NH. As between Donner and 'schlag, it's a toss up. Mudge also has four first year floors, although the walk is longer and it doesn't have lounge spaces.

Good luck with your decision.

E-mail me at capugh at gmail.com if you have any questions.

Is Morewood-E really the center of all freshman social activity or is that New House now? Which has more of a social/family feel among the residents? I've heard people say both so I want to know for sure.
