Important Gold Award (Honor) Question

Right now, I’m in the process of completing my Gold Award for Girl Scouts. If you don’t know what that is, it is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn (so pretty much the Eagle Scout Award, just for Girl Scouts) and you need 100 hours minimum. I’m going to work on it all summer and hopefully go in for final paperwork/review/interview on September 30 and then receive the award in late October. However, there is a chance that I will have to wait until November to get the review. This award is really important to me and because my project is about music and so are a lot of my extracurriculars, I think it would show a lot of commitment and leadership. So on the Common App when I apply Early Action, how should I put this on if I have not actually received it yet? I was thinking of writing something like “In the Process of Gold Award, x/100 hours completed so far. Expected to receive award mid-November. Have earned Bronze and Silver awards in the past” and then following up with an email/certificate when I actually get the award. Is this a good idea? Or should I do something else? Thanks!

I think it is perfectly fine to indicate an ongoing effort that you expect to be recognized for in the near future. You should mention what those hours are focused on (x/100 hours doing WHAT?) - the AdComm will be more interested in what you have done/are doing then in the name of the award.

Say you are in the process. Colleges will want to see your dedication to the activity- and since you are likely to earn the award (from what you have said), it is worthwhile to put that on the app.
