IMPORTANT Grammar Question

Hey guys!

Would this be correct?

On the table SITS the book and the pen

or

On the table SIT the book and the pen

I would presume that its sit because the book and the pen are two objects but then again they can be taken out as singular

Thanks

The second sentence is correct. It is constructed as [Preposition] [Verb] [Subject]. The subject is compound or plural, therefore, a plural verb is required.

“Sit” is correct because the sentence features a subject-verb inversion and a compound subject (formed by “and”).
