Dan, no one is helping you not because they don't want to help you cheat, but because they don't know how. This is tuff stuff. I rejoiced at the completion of such problems. Three semesters ago, I would have been able to help you, but now, my calculus is a little rusty. If I still had my text book, I could solve this for you. Think triangles for A. The two boats have a distance which is the hypotenuse. One is headed due north at 12 knots. Consider this the height of your triangle. The other is closing at 16 knots due west. (traveling horizontaly, thus, the width). Here, you have a right triangle whose height is expanding at a fixed rate, and whose width is closing at a fixed rate. This causes the length of the hypotenuse to change Plug in the lengths of the sides into the Pythagorean Theroem, (x^2 + y^2 = z^2) ; describe y in terms of x; and take the derivative dz/dt (the derivative of z with respect to time)

If you can't do it on your own, then how will cheating help you? Your grade should reflect your ability, and if you get an A from cheating, and, say, got into a slightly better college, how would you be able to keep up?

yes i realize that it is cheating and i dont want this to ruin my reputation but how many of you can honestly say that you have never conferred with a partner or did a take home test with another person. Not very many i would beleive and although it might not be your own work the teacher is not totally ignorant and purposelly gives challanging problems knowing full well that aid will be recieved in one form or another to complete the problmes correctly.....just something to think about

hollowcloud... i reall hope you're not so arrogant to think you are the only person who knows calculus... there are many people on this board who can, but refuse to help in said cases... and dan112931, i will admit, i have on many occasions worked with another person, most likely because that it is a useful strategy, however, u seem to dislike that method and choose not to seek help from classmates...

uhhh hollowcloud...if you dont think anyone on this board knows how to do related rates youre sadly mistaken...

i dont want to help this guy cheat. those problems are weak sauce and he should study up and do them on his own.

adidasty^2 are you the same as adidasty or new one?

So I made a mistake in my claim that youre all a bunch of brainless scalawags. I'm did not addressing you anyway. If your'e aim is to flaunt your magnificient skills, you should try doing some math. This is a math topic. Not a writing topic.I'm sure Dan appreciates my help more than you do. Thank you for making it clear that you have no interest in Dan's topic, but in criticizing what people say.

thank you man atleast ur a real human being other then the other robots who are just like ...cheating no good me no help

hollowcloud if you wish to flaunt YOUR magnificent math skills then go ahead, if you look at the older posts in this forum, it will mainly show that it's to help with sat prep and act prep and topics thus related to it, not so we can do your homework for it...

this kid has a 95 gpa and he cannot figure these simple problems out, I think this is a joke, just shows you how weak the GPA curve is with all its academic honesty

im sorry that i dont abide by the unwritten code of the forum. It is called SAT,ACT & OTHER TEST preparation

According to the rules of the English language, as I understand them, the title of this forum refers ONLY to SAT and ACT tests. Furthermore, this forum is for: "SAT and ACT Tests & Test Preparation"

well the AP isnt the SAT or ACT and they are sure as hell popular and i am utlimatly preparing for the AP CALC test so what now bit ch

The joke is on you. I will let your comment speak for itself. Maybe, just maybe, you should prepare for the AP English exam. Your preparations for the AP calculus exam have, apparently, done you no good. Why not invest your time in developing the critical life skill of communication?

that's nice, cujoe. Just keep talkin.

lol... all of these posts about cheating on a TAKE-HOME test? Take-home tests are just asking for help from others; it happens ALL OF THE TIME. People "cheat" on take-home tests at my school b/c they are just homework. Perhaps they are weighted heavier than plain homework, but that is all.

IMO, if teachers were worried about cheating, they would just have the test in class.

We did some of these problems in January, I think. As someone said, use the Pythagorean theorem for A. Conical hopper problems usually involve similar triangles... I would look more into this problem but I don't have time tonight.

Best of luck.

thanks man atleast u have som decency

whatever, i don't feel like starting a sparring war hollowcloud, but it did kind of seem like ur comment was written in a condescending tone, that's the only reason i got kind of defensive...

i'd also like to add, it's very difficult to gauge someone's integrity and personality just because they won't give you answers... if a child molestor gave you test answers would that make that person decent? no... however when ur peers choose not to, they suddenly become asses... and "indecent"
