I know this is still a ways off, but for those of you starting community college this year and planning to transfer to UCSB, please be aware of this info:

*...students transferring in Fall 2006 will need a 2.8 UC transfer GPA, and beginning Fall 2007 they will need a 3.00 UC transfer GPA to qualify for the guarantee. *

I haven't seen this info posted anywhere else besides this article (maybe officially UCSB doesn't want to post this info yet), but keep in mind that you'll have to earn a slightly higher GPA to qualify for UCSB's transfer agreement. I guess UCSB is just getting too popular and requirements have to be raised.

Actually, I believe that is a UC-wide increase; it's just UCSB is probably the best school that would be affected by such a change. Berkeley and UCLA don't admit ANYONE in that range, while UCSB admits a few.

I believe the minimum GPA for transfer students is a little different than freshman. For example, UCSB says that a 2.4 is the absolute minimum to apply as a transfer student (and a 2.8 will allow you to be part of the guaranteed transfer option). The 2.8->3.0 change deals with just the guaranteed transfer GPA, so I think students with lower GPAs will still be able to apply, but they won't have a guarantee anymore.
