IMPORTANT: Links to AUTOMATIC/GUARANTEED Merit Scholarships

Batoul…may I suggest that you start a thread with your question about schools with engineering programs in the west that give good merit aid? I think your query is going to get lost on this thread!

batoul, if your son has a high enough PSAT that he might be a National Merit finalist, check out the thread for NMF scholarships as well.

Thought I would add this NYTimes chart to the thread. Colleges and Universities that Award Merit Aid - July 2012

<a href=“Colleges and Universities That Award Merit Aid - Graphic - NYTimes.com”>Colleges and Universities That Award Merit Aid - Graphic - NYTimes.com;

Doesn’t belong here since that’s not guaranteed stuff. Also the numbers seem off. for example they have 38% of Olin freshmen getting merit, when actually 100% do.

So sorry mathmomvt. I’ll just go back to reading on here. Was just trying to be helpful.

@ Stripedshirt and Matthewcollege:

Have you considered LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY …a Catholic college (Jesuit) that offers generous merit aid? They have a gorgeous, new, state of the art science building and a highly competitive 5-year Physicians Assistant program. Many of their graduates go on to matriculate to respected medical schools.

LeMoyne shares consortium and social privileges with nearby Syracuse University, so the opportunity to study and mingle in a large campus setting is readily available to students. They have an 83% retention rate and 72% graduation rate.

[College Navigator - Le Moyne College](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - Le Moyne College)

COA is currently about $41,000, but students who apply by 2/1 are automatically considered for guaranteed four-year grants ranging from $23,750/yr ($95,000 over 4 years) with 95% gpa and SAT Score 1300 - 1600, or ACT Score 29 - 36

…down to $12,500/yr ($50,000 over 4 years) with 85% gpa and SAT Score 1050 - 1600
or ACT Score 22 - 36.

They also offer Program or major-based scholarships, each with its own requirements:
[Endowed Scholarships](History Faculty | Le Moyne College | Syracuse, NY)

All the above can be combined with need-based aid, Parocial/Jesuit HS grants, multi-cultural awards, and other, private scholarships. LeMoyne also offers D2 athletic scholarships to men in baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, soccer and tennis; and to women in basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.

Beginning in the fall of 2013, they will also offer merit awards for transfer students.

Please remember that this thread should ONLY include ASSURED scholarships for stats. IF the scholarships include words like, “will be considered” or similar, then the award is not assured for stats.

There are other threads that deal with merit awards that aren’t assured, so please post those kinds of awards on those threads. :)

Semantics error, on my part.

I just called the Financial Aid ofice at LeMoyne, and the merit awards I refer to above, are in fact, guaranteed - provided the student applies by 2/1 and is accepted.

Florida International University
This applies to anyone (in-state, out-of-state, and international students)

Presidential Scholarship I*

Academic Excellence Scholarship I*

However, the deadline to be considered for these scholarships have passed. (I guess this will be useful for those applying/transferring for fall 2015.)

The fine print indicates that the FIU scholarships have limited funding and are awarded on a first come first served basis.

I was informed that all students who applied before the November 1st deadline were guaranteed scholarships if they met the requirements. (I applied late-September and was awarded the Presidential Scholarship.) Also, if they raised their scores later and qualified for a larger scholarship, the school would give it to them.

The very bottom of http://admissions.fiu.edu/_assets/page-docs/MeritScholarship.pdf</a> says:

Students interested in these scholarships (for next year) should apply early.

What about any Texas schools for OOS?

It looks like there are hardly any CA schools in this list.

Calif is not a good source for full tuition scholarships…at least not to the more commonly known schools.

It appears that the FIU Presidential Scholarship is now tuition + books, not free ride:

I am new to the forum. Thanks for all the information. In considering the GPA requirements for the automatic guaranteed scholarships, do the schools use the weighted or non weight GPA? Some specify but others do not.

@homebrew‌
It depends. Some schools will only use UW, some will use Weighted. Bama will use weighted.

Thanks. My S has a 3.24 unweighted GPA, 5.05 weighted GPA and 1330 crit reading and math SAT. Based on the Bama website, he should be a UA Scholar. Do you see it the same way? Any other school/merit scholarship recommendations based on these scores. We live in NJ and are touring some schools in the South first week of November, but are open to all locations in the US.

Wow - my son has over that GPA unweighted, and far below that weighted. Should have moved to your town!

What major, homebrew? RPI gives pretty good merit aid if his goal is engineering.

And everyone should remember that some schools are nice enough to include SAT scores in their NPC calculator, and the merit aid will come up automatically, as it does for RPI.
