hey megaman,
just a suggestion, you need to be extra careful when you describe ur second grade math class...coz the adm officer might wonder why is 2nd grade math class that important to a high school senior(it has been 10 years)...you need to show them about the impressive person you are now!

thanks for the tip. Your absolutely right. i guess I'll probably write about the relationship between those values(that learned through that experience, not specifically the experience) and how they made me become the person I am today today.

hi guys. basically im REALLY in need of ideas for this. My life has been pretty normal until now and i haven't gone through many hardships. I do play tennis and the cello, but I don't have any memories of these activities that are worth telling. of course i could write about the future, but i'm not quite sure what i want to do in life. i think it's sort of weird explaining how you see yourself in the future because then I'm just setting myself up for disappointment. Maybe i'm being too cynical right now. please help!

Hey, do you use an instant messenger? I was basically in the situation as you are in now, but I wrote my essay about something completely detached from what's on my list of ECs, etc. I basically tried to describe a very pedestrian day of my life and show a side of me that I can't just write down on my list of activities.

krabble88- im me whenever. i use aim. maybe ill just im you.

I noticed that I basically just posted almost all the advice I had to offer. Are you still stuck on what you should write about?

But just incase you are, here's of an example of what I was talking about in my previous post:

Pretend you and your friends are sitting at lunch and the new girl walks by. She has no friends yet and sits by herself at a different table. Your friends insist on not being acquainted with her, but you walk over to her anyway and you become long time friends.

Don't make it so cliche, but that's essentially what I did to approach the essay. I didn't mention much about my ECs or activities, but instead showed a little about what type of person I am. This is only my advice, so if someone tells you differently, then you should definitely consider that too. Hope this helps

Funny you did mention that example; i sorta went through the same experience. The situation was a tad different in my case though. Basically a new girl from Iowa came and my friends and I asked if she wanted to sit at our table, and she did. The next few days the girl criticized just about everything- us and the state of MD. One of my friends asked her to leave, and I never saw her after that. lol this story is sort of funny in a way. too bad i can't mention it in a college essay. thanks for trying to help though.

is it fine to write something fictional and through it show some values i have.. or MUST it be about my life?

my idea is to write about my wimbledon experience this year. i covered the tennis event as an appointed journalist for a national tennis magazine in china and i also wrote a column for the newspaper. i will mentioned this but presented in a kinda special way.
what do u think?
=)

I don't think the event has to be completely non-fiction. It should show what you typical do or what type of person you typically are. If you write an essay about caring for others, I'm sure they'll be under the impression that you're a caring person (because it's important enough to write an essay about). Even if it's something fiction, put some of your values and shed light on your character. For example, pretend you're in Iraq fighting the war (in your essay but not in real life), maybe you have some sort of revelation and want to change the world because of the experiences you have been through. It doesn't necessarily mean you are or want to be a marine, but it might show that you are a humanitarian and sincerely feel that you have the privledge (and thus the obligation) to save others from living under tyranny or disease. Hope this helps!
