I was planning on applying to a pretty high flying school ... until I found out about my grade in AP Physics B
I'm getting a C goes to cry in a corner
and now im not sure whether or not to apply ED to a school.
This would be the only C on my transcript and it's because i just dont get physics!
Overall this year, I'm taking 4 AP Classes, two independent studies and science research.
The lowest I've gotten in my past years in a really tough private high school is a B in history.
On top of my heavy courseload, I play a varsity sport, volunteer, work for the school paper, and am facing a personal health problem.

Please tell me whether or not I should risk applying ED!

Ask you GC to mention the health problem in his/her recommendation form.

Did you take regular physics before AP? The college will wonder why you took an AP in something that you don’t get when you have a heavy course load and ECs.But you shold be fine with.

@glido but the thing is, ED has a better acceptance percentage than regular. i know i can get it up but i dont want to risk losing the chance to go ED

@appollo1974 my GC mentioned it in her recommendation letter
no i didnt take regular physics. my school just goes to ap classes automatically. last year I took AP Bio

If you are not a STEM major, if your hs swings kids into AP rather than another physics class, if you are overall a great student who took rigorous classes at a good hs, don’t worry.

As a prospective English major- not STEM or a field that relies on math-sci- what matters is that you took the class, that you take on that sort of challenge. Of course a B beats a C.

And, yes, competition at some schools is fierce- with plenty of kids who excel in all subjects. I think you understand that.

If you and your parents can afford the school and are not depending on the best finaid package, why not try ED?

Of course you should! When you apply ED1 (I’m assuming the deadline is on November or December…right?) your transcripts only show your freshman, sophomore and junior year grades. How could they know your current grades if the first semester isn’t even over? Make sure though that you can raise your grade, because even if you are admitted NOW, if later on they are not pleased with your grades they might revoke your admission.

My D who applied ED had to provide an interim senior grade report- when she realized one class grade was borderline, she went early to speak with that teacher, learn ways to get that grade up a bit, focus her studying better in that class, etc.

Honestly, they won’t revoke a high-performing English major’s admit because she got a C in AP Physics, at a competitive private school. And, as far as I know, revokes don’t come out of the blue- the GC and student have a chance to explain. I’d say, at a “really tough private hs,” the GC would go to bat for the kid.

@mspennylane - it shows my senior year grades up till november T.T
i know i can raise my grades but im scared that they would reject me based on my midsemester grades

@lookingforward - omg you’ve relieved me so much right now. I was freaking out but after reading your wonderful response, i’m just ecstatic! i honestly want to do english but i am taking physics just because i am already in the AP science track at my school.
I pray that they will put this class to the side and understand its not my best.
again, thank you so much for your response and i will most likely apply ED now =)
