Important post on packing

The space bags make a HUGE difference. We thought we could get away with ziplock bags squeezing all the air out. By using space bags it reduced the space in the bag by 30%. Now it does not look as if the zippers will break. The bag does weight a whopping 50 lbs. Any yes 95% of the bag is underware and socks.

Go out and get the space bags they are well worth it!

We are off to NY in the morning. Excited and nervous at the same time.

Good luck to you all and hope to meet you there!

I am a convert. Those space bags are EXCELLENT.

And a few ziplocs (in or out of the space bag) make sure that liquids or powders won't make a mess --- deodorant, toothpaste, shaving cream, etc).

Now, gotta go find a fan...

Best of luck to you and family, Supportmom, for all your great ideas.

What to pack in the goodie bag, and how many ? enough to share w/roommates? Squad, Platoon? regiment? Supe?

Does anyone know if electric shavers are allowed?

electric shavers are a no go till after indoc.
i told you those space bags are great huh? i was able to fit everything in a relatively small hiking backpack. there are many kids at school that were jealous when they saw me packing up my room for the summer and how i could get 3 times as much stuff in each box as them.
during indoc a goodie bag is more than likely a waste of time. our DIs took all the goodies... they gave them to us on the last day or so but made us keep eating till it was all gone, so it wasn't as enjoyable. but whatever. i never saw the giant bag of jelly beans my grandma sent me...

Thanks! Alex is said his face will look like chopped meat using a regular shaver, but guess it's only for 2 weeks.

So, don't pack a goodie bag either? Should the shaver/cell phone, etc be put in the "athletic" bag that perhaps the coaches will keep? Also, do we give that to the coaches during the picnic?

Thanks!

When did they change the electric razor rule? I know I used one during Indoc, but it has been several years.

Suzannegra if they're not allowing electric razors anymore putting it in the athletic bag isn't a bad idea so he can get to it the day indoc is over. I know for some sports the bags are taken at the picnic, others take them the morning of indoc, and I'm sure a couple others do something completely different. If you really want an answer I'd go ahead and call the coach of your specific sport.

i don't know that the electric razor thing is a rule, but they stress being unified over most things during indoc, and you don't want to be "special." you can probably have it and use it but only on your "own time" when they make you shave in the morning, it's best to be like everyone else.

our DI's took anything from us that required any electricity whatsoever unless it was a fan.

but that's cause you're in band land...
; )
