Okay I took 7 AP exams this year. I self studied 3, BC Calc (I had already made a 5 on AB), Microecon, and Macroecon. I registered for college classes today and told my advisor that I wanted to start with Calc II and take Micro and Macroecon regardless of whether or not I passed those exams (which I think I did for BC but not for Econ) because I am a double major in Math and Econ so that I could get a firm grounding in those subjects. My question comes up when the scores are sent to the college. If I make a 3 or up on any of those exams, the registrar is going to want to grant me credit which would interfere with my taking of those classes this semester. I talked to my advisor and he didn't really know what to do so what I think I am going to do is pay $30 and withhold those 3 scores from my college and just let them get the other 4. Is this the best move? Are they going to get mad that they didn't get 7 scores when I said on my app that I was taking 7 tests? I don't think they'll even bother making the connection and don't they would care if they did. Am I wrong about this?

Talk to the registrar before you do anything. I've never heard of any college that automatically grants credit for AP scores. At most schools you have to petition for the credit to be placed on your transcript. And most colleges also have a policy regarding students who retake classes for which they would have received AP credit - sometimes they will give you general elective credit if you pass, other times they will completely disregard the fact that you took the AP exam. Withholding scores should be the absolute last resort.

So should I just call the registrar and ask what the policy is? The reason I am in such a rush is that the deadline for asking for withholding is June 15. I'm in the Honors College at my school and my advisor said it was okay for me to take these classes even though I took the AP exam but is the registrar like the bottom line.

One of the big things I'm worried about is a grad school seeing Calculus BC AP exam on my transcript and then also Calculus 142 which is why I wanted to withhold.

Come on anyone else?

Looking at your old posts, I'm assuming your going to U. South Carolina next year. Call at Office of Student Orientation & Testing Services at 803-777-2780 or email them at usctesting@gwm.sc.edu ASAP. From the AP Info Page, it says "Once your scores have been received by the Office of Student Orientation and Testing Services, the appropriate paperwork will be prepared to ensure that you receive the credit on your transcript. " This makes it sound like you have to do absolutely nothing to get the credit, which seems a bit odd. Call or email them and ask about retaking class for which you are able to claim AP credit.

Yeah I know from friends experience that they take care of everything for you. I called them earlier today and they were confused so I emailed just about everyone in the office. I'm going to email the registrar also.

Would it be weird if I just dropped by the registrar tommorow afternoon and tried to find someone who knows what they are talking about?

Come on
I know someone has had a similar problem.

Many (possibly majority) automatically give you the credit for scores submitted. However, at all you can decline the credit;the way it often works is that if you take the course for which you have credit, the AP credit will simply be removed from your transcript and replaced by the graded course once you complete it. Just call your school and ask the process for declining the credit.

Would I just call the Registrar? I just don't want my school to think that I am retaking a class that I could have gotten credit for. I have good reasons for declining though.
