Let's say I am waitlisted at two schools. Since I am waitlisted, I have to put a deposit in University X (3rd choice) by this week. If I get into one of my waitlisted schools (2nd choice), University Y, I know I can give up my deposit at University X. Usually schools that accept you from the waitlist give you only a short amount of time to respond. So i put a deposit for University Y. But what if by some miracle, I get into my first choice, University Z, a month after I put in a deposit for Y, can I give up my deposit for Y? Sorry if this is confusing, but answers would be helpful since I have to put down a deposit this week!

For any place if you put down a deposit and then you change your mind you will forfeit the deposit.

Your scenario does occur – a second WL offer coming in after the first. Yes, you’re STILL allowed to withdraw from School Y for School Z.

Yep, but you’ll lose your deposits.
