i clicked yes for financial aid, bc my parents wanted to. but now they say that they dont want to, and i agree, bc i dont want to take aid away from students who need it. anyway, how can i not fill out the forms and still get accepted to those colleges?

should i call and be like, hey can i not apply for fin aid?

Just let the colleges know that you've decided to not apply for aid. That way, they won't think that they lost your app or something. Depending on the college, not applying for aid my boost your chances as many colleges are need sensitive when admitting applicants. This means that applicants who don't need aid will have a greater chance of acceptance than will applicants who do need aid.

Before doing this, however, make sure that your parents really can pay for the college without aid. Check, too, a financial aid estimator like the one on CC's site. If you're applying to Ivies, all of them guarantee to meet 100% of students' demonstrated need, and none of them take financial need into consideration when making admissions decisions (except some will give a tip to applicants who are very poor).

thanks northstarmom.

would it be best to call them instead of e-mailing?

when i call what do i say, can i just give them my name or do i have to be like, hi my name is rachel my ssn is ____ my bday is feb 12 and im not applying for financial aid.

I would email them and ask which they would prefer.
