Important question

Ok, I just got rejected from Vanderbilt but I really think that my stats are good (4.3 W GPA, 800M/690R/740W, 11/500). I have basically given up hope on JHU because if I can't get into Vandy then how can I get into Johns Hopkins which has a lower acceptance rate? My teachers keep telling me that there have been many cases of students getting accepted at competitive schools while getting rejected at schools that are easier to get into. What do you guys think? Are my teachers just trying to be nice to me or are they right?

You should read last years rd threads....there seems to be little rhyme or reason at the upper end of selectivity. That's why you wrote so many apps :-)...hang in there, it'll be over soon and you can start really "trying on" your choices. Good luck.

hey if you know where they specifically are could you post the link- don't feel like looking - the JHU text only archives are HUGE

ridpat88, I share your sentiment, except my stats are not as solid as yours (2110 SATs, 3.9 GPA). I got waitlisted at Vandy (CAS) and I don't see how I'm going to be able to get into my next 5 schools (that I'm still waiting for--Johns Hopkins being one of them). Does anyone know whether or not Vandy WLed or denied students based on shown interest? I live far away (Pennsylvania) and could not visit, but I definitely would have considered it (because I hear great things about the school). Anyway, enough of my rant, but if anyone could provide any insight on these types of experiences, I would be most appreciative!

P.S.- Sorry if I just seem bitter at Vandy and am trying to blame my waitlist decision on lack of interest. By the way, JHU rocks! Woohoo!

I can't find the link so I'll just post my stats again:
