Which applicant has a better chance of being admitted to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign if they have the same grades, test scores, and extracurricular activites?

Applicant A:
1st Choice: College of Education
2nd Choice: Division of General Studies

Applicant B:
1st Choice: Division of General Studies

essentially, apply for the college of ed and indicate that the applicant would like be considered for LAS: undecided if not admitted to COE, and it’d be the same chance all around, if your essential goal is to get into the university.

uhhh…didn’t say it was the easiest. dude, these are questions for an admissions counselor. COE just kind tends to be more selective cause there’s a limited number of people they can take into the program, and they try to pick only the people they believe will REALLY stick through with the education thing…

Division of general studies simply means applying undecided to the A&S college and chances are no better or worse than usual A&S chances for most chosen majors. Usual chances of admission to A&S and COE are about the same. Be aware that you can apply to COE only for elementary education not secondary. For secondoary education you apply to A&S and major therein and then to become teacher certified you take certain courses from COE.

I think special ed and early childhood are also covered in the COE, are they not? And if you’re going the secondary route, you have to apply to the program in the second semester of your sophomore or junior year. But you really want to get into COE straight off, cause it’s a b**** to transfer into later.
