Important question!

I am ranked 1/466 but I now have a 3.7 GPA (4.4 weighted). Will that hurt my chances of getting into a top school? Please be honest as this will help me with my schedule for senior year! Thanks alot!

umm it certainly wont help

***.....valedictorian status, and high GPA, dude, cmon lets not joke around, you are pretty much have a good chance @ top schools

If as valedictorian you have a slightly low unweighted GPA, you must go to a difficult school, which actually helps.

Thanks everyone. any more replies please?

that is crazy to have a 3.7 gpa and to be ranked 1st. In my school with 840 people, a 3.6 makes you top 50 percent. I also have a 3.7 and am ranked top 30 percent. Either you come from a really top elite school where it is impossible to get straight A's, or you come from a terrible school where no one cares. To prove you come from a top school, your sat have to be above average and you need to do good on your sat II's. Do good on these, and colleges will say that your GPA should not be looked at because you are first in your class and have proved that you are intelligent.

could anyone help me on my other thread. It is about me and trying to see if I have a chance to get into Mcgill. Please go check it out.

joekid, our rank is based on WEIGHTED gpa, of which i have a 4.4 .

so what is your rank unweighted.

unweighted = 3.7
weighted = 4.4

I know your GPA but what is your class rank for unweighted and weighted. Is it 1st in class for both.

its based on the weighted gpa and I have the highest (4.4) in my class.

any more replies? i am still confused!

Cryptic, class rank is much more important than GPA. Clearly you go to a school with much less grade inflation than most. Private colleges with thorough reviews will not blink. However, there is some proof that many state schools render kids at schools with low inflation disadvantaged.

Top schools will want you to take the hardest possible classes, so keep doing so. If your scores and ECs are in line with your being val, you should have many good choices with a well crafted list. Do take a page from this year's admits and don't do an ivy only list though! Good luck!
