I have heard many mixed opinons, if I wanted to be a detective or a SWAT officer would a Criminal justice be the right option?

anyone?????

Detective, criminal justice or maybe psychology. SWAT, criminal justice or a stint in the Army or Marines, in a field that gets plenty of practice with weapons and tactics.

My son wants to be an FBI agent. Specifically, a "profiler." (Yes, we know "profiler" is not a real job, it's a Hollywood term. But, you get the idea.)

Anyway, our neighbor is an FBI agent. We asked him how Son should prepare for a potential career at the agency. He said to avoid Criminology or CJ majors for federal work. They're OK for local street policing, but not necessarily good for local law enforcement "management" or federal law enforcement.

Our friend's college major was math. His coworker was sociology. He said Son would be fine with a psych degree. Basically, he squished up his face and shook his head at the mention of criminology or CJ.

Son is now planning to major in psych and minor in CJ. He'll probably try to get his Psy.D in grad school while he waits for the 25 year old minimum age to apply to FBI.

hmmm, ok Im appyling for RTOC scholarships, and I almost have one wrapped up. I guess I need to rethink my major then...

My FBI neighbor was Army ROTC at Auburn. After graduation he fulfilled his obligation (including first Gulf War) then applied to FBI. He said sometimes new ROTC grads can fulfill their obligations by applying to DEA and serving in South America. Apparently, DEA needs young, college-educated agents. (I bet your mom wouldn't want to hear that, though. I know I didn't like it.)

HAHA! Yeah idk what my parents would think about that

I looked on the DEA's site and they said that they give special attention to a CJ major
