Hi, I am a bit confused by uc gpa, please help!
The website explanation on UC is rather vague..

1) Freshmen and Senior GPA not included?
2) only 2 extra points for 10th grades even tho I had way more than 2?? ahh so that means,, in order to get all 8 extra points, I should have taken 6 honors in my junior year?
3) My school has a quarter system. Still, when I calculate I add up my final gpa of the year right? not like adding up all the quarter grades..( uc app told me to put all quarter grades)

4) what is a good gpa for berkeley???

Thanks very much! I have been struggling with this all day!

wait... 5) does my school need to send transcript?

For determinig elegibility, only sophomore and junior grades are used including any summer course you may take between soph and jun year and jun and sen year. On a semester basis, you can get up to 8 extra points for AP and honors courses but you are counting those wrong. Those are 8 “semester” points, meaning one course that goes both semesters can get up to 2 extra points. Thus, in sophomore year you can have up to 4 extra points for two year long courses. And the max is 8 semester points meaning a max of four courses if the courses are year long. In other words if you have 5 year long AP and honors courses your sophomore year and 5 your junior year, only two of those courses each year get you extra points (8 total semester points for two year long courses each year). I am not sure how that converts to a quarter system.

That process detrermines eleigibility for admission and if you meet minimum criteria you are guaranteed admission to “a” UC although not necessarily one of your choice. When it then comes to actual admission to a particular UC, that UC can consider your whole file, e.g., Berkeley can consider as a factor all those additonal APs/honors you took. For class this year, Berkeley reports that its average unweighted gpa was 3.93 and weighted 4.39. You self report grades on app for UCs (and then later confirm after completion of senior year with submission of actual transcript). Also note that they do require official SAT scores from College Board, you must send all SATs and SAT IIs (do not exercise score choice), and you need to send your scores to only one UC – others you have applied to will then get them.
