Important waitlist decision

yes this is copied and pasted from the umich thread...im sure you can all figure it out although it was adressed to umich (you must be your reading emorys thread lol) ...

my guidance counselor told me that its impossible...or near impossible to get into umich with less than a 3.6 uw gpa. my gpa is uw hovering around 3.5 ish.

she told me something about not wanting to get sued (umich and ucla get sued for discrimination a lot from what i remember)

anyway i was wait listed and i feel like they just filled there class up quickly i.e. rolling admissions and just waitlisted nearly the rest. this is important because i was also waitlisted at emory and lehigh (many others were waitlisted at lehigh for not showing interest, and although emory is top notch they factor in desire to attend as well which i lacked).

should i put more effort into emory and lehigh? i mean umich waitlisted so many kids i feel that calling and sending more info would be pointless because i cant even get the person who read my files number or name...and were so removed from the process. keep in my my uw gpa is slightly less than 3.6

Fender… I’d push on at the other schools. My D is heading to Oxford/Emory and I’m hearing that the Emory list has started to move. Don’t wait long.

what do you mean by starting to move the list? like theyve started accepting people?

yes but, a very limited number
they have not got all the decisions back ( not May 1 yet) and (accepted) people are still visiting the campus

got an call from ronnie mcknight that person who read my regular decision app today

said they read waitlist info in alphabetical order and he no longer is reviewing my app

^ Really? That sucks since I’m near the end.

That’s completely unfair to review them alphabetically.

sorry part of my post got deleted by accident

they read waitlists alphabetically but it doesn’t work like that. basically they take the waitlist pile, and give each admission officer two letters…

so basically the person reading your waitlist app is prob not the one who read yours when you first submitted it (your regional rep)

fyi – Emory does not read the RD apps by region either. They have a random reading process for all apps.
