Important

Hello

I am an Indian student applying to Princeton University. I was checking their supplement where there is a column which says that Princeton University would frankly talk to my secondary school.

Does Princeton University call up every International school to verify information on Common App.

The problem is that since I have graduated from High school; My school's Principal, Vice Principal and most of the teachers who had taught me have retired and a new lot has taken over who don't really know me so if Princeton University calls up my school and asks them about me they might not be able to answer and Princeton University might think that I have been lying on my Common App which would jeopardize my chances.

Please help me I need the answer to this question before I submit my Princeton supplement.

Didn’t your high school fill out transcripts or the counselor form? That sounds bizarre that no one would know you went to the school. Schools do have records and you should be contacting the current principal to let them know. How did you get recommendations?

Yes, one of the indian applicants who got into harvard said that her school WAS contacted by harvard once she accepted. So they verified everything.

When did I say that my school won’t be able to verify if I studied there or not.

I said that the new Vice principal might not be able to verify some personal things which my old vice principal had written in his recommendation.

And about the transcripts - Our school has this policy, when we go to our school to collect our school leaving exam results we sign an agreement and release our whole record. From our school Nobody goes to the US. I am the first one who has applied !!! And most Indian colleges only need X and XII results for admission so my school just keeps my board results with them. ( X and XII ).

So when I applied to the colleges in the US, I showed my record to my vice principal, who created a one page transcript containing all my marks and uploaded it through Common App school form system.

I have the original reports of all my classes with me. My school doesn’t have it. Seriously!! This might sound bizarre but this is true. Small schools in India have bizzare policies.

Everything mentioned in your application is verified by the top private schools (Columbia, Princeton, Penn, Harvard, Stanford, etc.). Among publics, I think only Berkeley has such a policy.

When do they verify - Before Accepting or After Accepting the student

After Accepting, usually. In the meantime, you definitely should have a chat with your current principal and show him your common app. If everything is genuine, you have nothing to worry about.

^ Thanks… I was thinking the same … I would talk to my current Vice Principal after the Winter break

Are you taking a gap year?

Ya I have taken a gap year? Why

I have never heard of this. Nor do I think they will go through with the trouble of verifying every stat of every accepted student unless it’s remarkably outstanding.

@decillion - I agree with you … I heard they don’t call up each and every schools untill they find something inconsistent or suspicious in an application.

That actually worries be a bit too. You see, my high schooling was torn between the US and Nepal; I came back to Nepal after my sophomore year. When I was back in the US, I had won a CIA Outstanding Young Scientist Award, which my guidance counselor here doesn’t know about. So, since that’s quite… suspicious, if they ask my guidance counselor, he probably won’t have any idea, raising some red flags. So would they contact the CIA to see if I’m in their archives? Wow, I hadn’t considered that! I should notify my GC right away; I hope it’s not too late!

^Do you have any proof like a certificate, or a letter notifying you that you won? That would probably do.
I doubt the school expects the counselor to know EVERYTHING about the applicant. My counselor barely remembers my name, much less what I did over my summers.

Do not worry too much is my point. :)

Thanks, and yes I do have a certificate. I guess I’ll manage, and the worry does take a huge toll on you :(

Thanks again :)
