I'm an international living in Sydney, Australia. I'm interested in attending the Biomedical Engineering program at JHU, and also am applying for fin aid (willing to pay about 10-15k a year). And yes, I know that international + aid + BME is pretty much the most difficult combination possible for admissions to JHU.

I have to admit that you have an incredible profile and if you were living in the US, you’d almost be a shoe-in. Just a word of advice though, you might want to reconsidering applying for aid. That’s the only thing that would kill your app really, because JHU is need-aware (see: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/johns-hopkins-university/219650-hopkins-need-blind.html) for international. As far as I know, international students very rarely get aid, and I remember AdmissionsDaniel going as far as saying your admission to Hopkins is very much dependent on your ability to pay for your education. Of course, I can be totally wrong, but would you bet your app on it?

As for applying just international + BME, it’s hard but not impossible. I’m living with one and I definitely have eaten lunch with another, so there you go. They exist.

Not ED, RD. Only because, if i wait for RD, I will get my final year results, which i expect to be very good (all A’s, or at most 1 B).

Also, I entirely see what you are saying about applying for aid as an international. But the thing is, without aid, i can’t go. And there’s really no point getting in without aid and not being able to go after all that work.

But does everyone agree that I have at least a fair chance at JHU BME admission with aid?

Btw, please chance me for Duke with aid as well, even though I know this is a JHU forum.

Uh, then I’d really suggest you applying to a liberal arts school. They’re pretty much the only schools you can count on to give out financial aid to internationals other than ivies.

“But does everyone agree that I have at least a fair chance at JHU BME admission with aid?”

If you want to look at it statistically, there are about 90-100 international students admitted each year to Hopkins, and if about 10% of them get aid each year, that’s about 8-11 people. You’re smart enough, you do the math.

Sorry, that’s about as far as I can help you with this. If you want to be chanced for Duke, go bother people in the Duke thread; I at least don’t know that much about the school.
