Hi guys,
I'm wondering if you knew anything about CSULB's Electronic and Media Arts Department. What kind of work are the students producing? Does it get many transfers? Is it reputable (Spielberg went there... but how skilled are the students really who come out of it?) I started looking at CSULB too late too apply, but I knew I could never get in USC or NYU so now I'm considering the option of transfering sometime down the line.

The Spielberg thing is a misconception, he actually dropped out and started interning full time at Universal. He later finished his degree after his success. All the state schools get plenty of transfers especially from community colleges.
Here is a link to the website for the major:

I am still being considered for the Pre-Film major as a transfer. The school is definitely reputable, although USC,UCLA, and Chapman are better options. Thats not to say that Long Beach is a push over, much like those other schools they allow a limited number of students into the major. Long Beach has been voted one of the best value schools, and its in a good area.
Where are you going since you didn’t get into the two you mentioned?

I’m looking into all this pretty early, (I’m a senior right now in high school and I’m still waiting to hear my decisions) But chances are I’ll end up at either ithaca, beloit, college of wooster, american, or trinity university (texas). You might have heard of Ithaca and American, considering they have fairly good film programs unlike the others which have none. I feel like being IN california would be advantageous (especially CSULB’s location) paired with the real world experience available and quality education.

You said that you were being considered for the pre-film track? I’m assuming this the lower division program? One thing I’m worried about is not getting enough exposure in film at the other schools; Ithaca is fairly reputable however it lacks a lot of general requirements which worry me when thinking about the transfer process.

I will have completed 60 semester units at a CCC but at Long Beach before you can enter the upper division section you have to complete the pre-reqs if I’m not mistaken, hince the Pre-film. All people that apply are automatically put into the film studies major then you have to apply to get into the production track. Pretty sure thats how it works. This is my second choice though. UC Santa Barbara is my first choice. It has a decent film studies program, production classes, and the location that I want to be (Near LA and by the ocean. Plus the whole party scene :)
