-I only have a 27 ACT, and my UWGPA end of 1st Semester will probably be a 3.7 (around a 3.8 right now).
-I have what seems to be pretty good extracurriculars, though probably nothing breathtaking. Activities include a varsity sport, three solid internships, very fulfilling community service hours, school spirit, etc.
-Honors are mainly school related with a lot of focus on leadership.
-Essays seem to be decent.
-Hispanic and Asian
-From CA, bilingual (does it matter?)
-I have shown great interest in the school and gone to a sponsored program on campus. Colgate says they don’t care about interest, so I’m not sure if this will be of any effect.
-6 APs by the end of senior year
These are just some vague details of what my application will be, and I will possibly create a chances thread later on.
LONG STORY SHORT: Is this school impossible for me to get into? I know it is a big reach, but do I even have somewhat of a realistic chance? I’m applying either way, and it’s my top choice. I just want to know if there’s no hope. Is my ACT score automatically gonna kick me out of the running?
PS: Just realizing I kind of didn’t give myself enough credit for my extracurriculars. They are definitely above average. My internships are not common for people my age, many hours in community service, etc. If interviews or anything of that nature can make a difference (I requested), it would definitely help. They do claim interviews aren’t required, and interest isn’t tracked.
You can still take the ACT again in October. I would give that a try to help your application. that can still go on an ED app/be reported to the school
@Coolmom23 I actually can’t do ED, and I’m contemplating taking the December ACT.
I just wanted to know, is this school too much of a reach where I would have 0 chance??? I got into their multicultural program with my current stats, if that’s worth anything. I know it is a big reach, but is it still a possibility with the other things I have going on? I can be more specific with my extracurriculars and other facts if need be.
You will ultimately have a well put together application, so impossible does not seem to apply to you. For what it’s worth, USNWR recently profiled a student accepted at the similarly selective Middlebury with a 3.2 UW GPA and a 26 ACT (possibly not submitted). Colgate is a different school, and you are a different applicant, but your basic stats are also considerably higher.
@merc81 Hey, I actually just ended up switching my application from Regular Decision to Early Decision II. Do you think this will improve my chances? If so, how much do you think it will help? It’s obviously still a huge reach for me based on my statistics, but I’d appreciate any input from you. Thanks in advance!
ED won’t help your chances if you don’t make Colgate’s first cut, but if you do, it can make a pretty big difference. If you crafted a nice looking application, I think you have at least a reasonable chance. Like many other students, you have put an official reach on your list. Now it’s Colgate’s turn. Good luck.
