Background: I currently go to a 3rd tier university and I'm applying for Fall Transfer to Fordham, NYU, BU, and 1 or 2 other schools.

Question: I'm currently in my 3rd semseter here. Frankly to say, I don't like to school so I'm going to transfer. It's an expensive school (30+ k), around 9.5k a semester with my scholarship. Would taking the spring semester off after sending in my applications be a potential detriment for transfer admission? I just don't want to pay almost 10k in the spring again for a school that I find to be a waste of time and money. I'd rather take the semester off and attend my transfer college in the fall.

I don't see why it would be a problem. Lots of people are out of school right now and are applying as transfers with three semesters of credits from the college(s) that they used to attend. That said, you should make it very clear in your application that you will be leaving your current school at the end of this semester, and that you are planning to take the spring semester off. You should also be prepared to explain what you are going to do with the time that you aren't in college/

Good luck!

I don't understand why you'd take a semester off if you don't need to. The more time you're at the other school, the more credits you can transfer so you graduate on time.

Even if you feel you must take that semester off, it's likely the school you applied for admission at (assuming you haven't already been awarded admission) will want to know what you've done with that break semester.

I just don't want to spend another 10k on a school I don't think is worth near that much money. I'd much rather spend an extra semester somewhere else. I'm applying for admission for theater and theater programs only accept transfer admissions for the fall.
