Impossible to transfer with a low ACT score ?

Hello, I am prospective Emory transfer student for the Fall of 07. I'll give you some background on myself, hopefully you can help me:

I am an URM student in the 4th semester of CC outside of Georgia. I will complete 4 semesters/62 units by the summer.

I currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.935 and hope to get a 4.0 in my 4th year, raising it to a 3.95 cumulative GPA for 2 years with the hardest curriculum available.

I have some unique EC's, talents and travel experiences. (From basketball player in high school, to volunteer during hurricane Katrina... Visited Spain, mexico, Cuban and other parts of south america... I speak 2 languages fluently and a 3rd one semi-fluently.

I think I could write solid essays and get good recommendation letters

but I have 2 pretty big problems. My ACT score (only took the test once) is nothing spectacular (in fact it's pretty horrid, in the 75th percentile).

Emory requires ACT/SAt scores for all transfers and mine are obviously well below par, anybody have any idea how much can this affect me in the admissions process ?

Also, anybody else familiar with Emory...I saw they have a PE/Nutrition requirement, but I haven't taken PE/nutrition classes since high school...what's the deal with these requirements ?

Thanks in advance people !

Don't worry about the PE thing; you can take it when you get there. However, I would advise you try and boost the score, assuming you got around a 24. If you can bring it up to a 28+, it'll definetly be in your favor. Otherwise, your GPA seems strong, and should warrant serious consideration.

Best of luck :)

My understanding is that SAT/ACT scores matter for sophomore transfers, but not for students like you with going on two years of college experience. You should do well with that great GPA.

thanks for the responses so far!... I would try to boost the ACT score, but the problem is that the next testing date is after the admissions deadline so I can't take the test and still apply for the fall of 07.

whats your act?

what Twenty8 said, 23/24 pouts

Well, all hope isnt lost....I think u might get into emory

I think it's fair to say that the test scores and high school stats become less important as you progress through college, but it seems illogical for the schools to ask for scores/HS transcripts at all (of junior transfers) if they have no bearing on their decision.

what's your take on my situation then brand_182 ?. anybody else familiar with this issue got any comments ?, I'm trying to figure out, if I should continue filling out the application and finish the essay today or not...thanks
