impressed by your achievements letter?

I dont think you have to have a particular gpa or ACT/SAT score to get a likely letter, I know somebody that had an act score of a 24 and a 4.3 gpa and got an invitation to the tarheel shadow program. You just have to shine throughout the application, especially through the essays.

^^
Totally agree! I received an invite to the program, ( on my portal) but have not received a letter, did this happen to any of you guys?
but yea fastfurious, is 100% correct, knowing other people’s stats is not going to give you hope of getting an invite, its your overall character ( thru essays recommendations ecs and all that good stuff)
UNC is very unpredictable, you never know what they want.

o and i also applied EA.

I think somebody said the likely letters are sent out all through December and January. It would make sense to me that the invite would show up online before it arrives via snail mail, so don’t fret :)

I’m so excited that I got the letter. I got flat out rejected from the morehead, and now im really hoping for the johnston. btw, im in-state with 2270 SAT and 3.98 UW. i think im going on the 28th

Are there instances in which snail mail arrives before My UNC is updated?

I doubt it…all they have to do is push a button for the UNC portal whereas they have to stamp thousands of envelopes for regular mail. I got one of these letters too. At first I figured they sent them to everyone, but the only other people I know who got it are the 3 smartest girls in my senior class. Plus why they bother wasting their time hosting rejected students at the Tar Heel Shadow program? Colleges cause us a lot of anxiety, but I don’t think even they are that cruel. I’m hoping for the best because UNC is an insanely awesome school! Good luck everyone!

It’s a likely letter, so acceptance isn’t 100% guaranteed. There have been students in the past who received the letter and were rejected.

really secret asian? there has been students who were rejected and received a likely letter? that sounds bizarre. are you sure? give me more details.

Remember that it’s a likely letter and not an acceptance letter. Though the vast majority of students who receive them are accepted, there are occasional exceptions - happened to somebody from my school a few years ago. Granted he did let his grades slip, and I probably should have stated in my earlier post that you’ll probably be fine if you don’t do anything stupid. But it can happen.

I’ve heard of the same thing, Secret Asian Man. Someone at my school was accepted last year and thought he could go ahead and party the rest of senior year. Until they checked on his grades…

Ended up at Wake Tech lol

o wow, yea that makes a lot of sense.

Haha I haven’t recieved a letter, probably because I don’t have any achievements to be impressed with, lol. :D

i turned in my app mid-december. will they be doing likely letters for people who applied for the second deadline? and also, does it hurt in any way to not apply before november 1st (besides not knowing as early as others)?

^^ check out the UNC admissions blog: [UNC Admissions Blog](http://unc-admissions.blogspot.com/)

i think you’ll see that most of your questions are answered there.

^Yes, and also browse through the comments, especially the ones for the November 4 posting. Some good information about likely letters in there.

Does anyone know how the travel arrangements are covered for the shadow program? Will they pay to fly me down to unc? I’d like to attend the program but they don’t really give any details and just say that they will “make the arrangements”.

My son just got his letter today! He applied on 11/2. What a wonderful surprise!

^
In-state or OOS

i just got my letter today…and my stats are nowhere near as impressive as the others SAT 1830 SAT 2 Math 2: 570 US History 520. I am number 1 in the class, senior class president, and president of the National Honor Society. But I feel kind of bad, I put no effort into my UNC application and people who are die hard fans and slaved over their essays did not recieve a letter.

dmoore dont feel bad, sometimes thinngs like that just happen, bc i know what you mean, like me, i got into ncstate, and i didnt celebrate or nothing i just looked at it and then went on with my day, i spent literally an hour on that app and when i found out i got in, i had no emotion. do anyone know how many students are invited total.???
