Thanks Ben! Also, yeah I was talking about Adrien in that earlier post haha. She's so sweet. Thanks again.

Ben--

Thanks for the link. I appreciate the way CCM has set this up for visitors. I also appreciate the encouragement to contact Richard Hess. Is there anyone you would recommend in MT to request for a Monday class to observe?

Honestly- I would contact Richard as well...he can point you in the right direction as far as getting in contact with the Musical Theater department. The departments are much closer than people must think.

Thanks for all your help and insight. My son Evan decided to attend CCM and although he hasn't heard from some schools, he has decided that CCM is the best fit. He talked to Richard this week and informed him of his decision. He's very excited about attending CCM and he felt that of all the programs he looked at, it has the best well rounded program. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you in some future productions.

Wonderful! How exciting it is to know where you're headed so soon...I look forward to meeting and helping the freshmen get comfortable this year-- I was so welcomed here I hope to pass that on.

Is the NYU-Tisch more of a status?
I would think for the money, CCM would be a better offering should someone have to rethink thier major?
Any input would be appreciated.

If this is the case at CCM, then that knocks thsi school off our list.
That make no sense, that's like benching a freshman athlete then expecting them to be up to real game speed next year.
Is this common in MT programs at other schools as well?

CCM freshmen do audition for shows, and are sometimes cast.

Let me chime in a bit on CCM

First, CCM is one of the sterling conservatories for music and dramatic performance in the nation, rivaling that of RICE, Peabody, Oberlin etc. It really is that good.

Second, I had an amazingly talented uncle who attended CCM. He had his choice of schools but decided to go there based on their reputation and because they give good scholarships to very talented people. My uncle bacame very famous writing an Oscar winning play, and composing the orginal score for the musical cartoon, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."
He was, however, most remembered for his performance as the music professor in the movie and TV show, "Fame."

My daughter attended a high school with a humanities magnet program. We, thus, get some really talented people at our high school. Probably the top talent that I have seen in many years, who was written up in our major newspapers, attended CCM and is now a senior.

I mentioned these two people just to give you an idea of the type of people CCM attracts.

Actually this is a really poorly thought out idea you have.

Freshmen year for drama is jam packed with stagecraft and costume lab, along with just trying to get used to the crazy work load. I know last year as a freshmen I couldn't have been up at 9 am for acting, gone to school till 4, had lab and crew till six and then try to be in rehearsal till 11pm. That would be nearly impossible and those cast would be at a severe disadvantage as far as handling the work load.

As far as 'benching an actor', what do you think a conservatorys training is DAILY? It's ACTING. Shows aren't the only way for actors to use their skills.

Clarification - I believe that freshmen DRAMA majors do not audition for shows. Freshmen MT majors DO audition for shows.

Correct.

Musical Theatre freshmen are required to audition.

My S is likely to get to make a second visit to CCM. Last time we had an excellent tour by the CCM admissions office, a session with an admissions counselor and S sat in on Richard Hess's acting 1 class. We also attended a great performance of Pirates of Penzance. If he visits again, he would like to talk with a musical theatre faculty member and attend an MT class, something we could not do last time. Any advice on specific faculty to request? Aubrey Berg, Roger Grodsky, Diane Lala? They all appear to be good choices from their web profiles. The trip may have to be on a Friday so that may limit class options and faculty availability.

Thanks!

Is anyone on this thread familiar with any music majors who attend CCM? I would love to pm with some questions.

momnipotent, read my post 29 found in this thread. It might prove helpful.

straight to Aubrey-- he'll be the one to go to. ;-D

I'm sooo excited to be visiting on october 13th!! I'll be a senior next year and CCM is my number one school so far! It's perfect for my family's needs! It's right in our budget....for my parents it's close to a church that they approve rolls eyes and it's also far away enough for me to be independent but close enough to drive home to! AND its one of the best MT schools in the country right here in ohio! I'm just so nervous for when I audition next year! I work my butt of soo much in theatre and I know I have what it takes I mean I know i have what it takes so yeah I just hope all goes well!
