impressions of school and town

My D is considering Wittenburg but we haven't visited yet. A friend who used to work in Springfield OH said the town has serious gang problems and a student was murdered a1-2 yrs ago a block from campus. ANy feedback on the safety of sense of the community? My niece has friends who live in Spfld but may or may not attend the college and she says her friends are very liberal--any sens of how conservative or liveral the college is?

Wow-I thought everything looked so nice and secluded. Gangs in Springfield - who would have guessed? It's seems to be pretty rural.

I applied here (doubtful that I'll go at this point) and visited. It seemed pretty conservative (which is common in Ohio). Definitely not a liberal campus. Very nice, but very small community. Rural, but it seemed quite safe. I would feel very safe living there. If you have any other questions, I'd love to help you out.

We drove through campus and the surrounding area while making the loop of Ohio colleges. Many we visited had the same combination of small school/small town/rural/isolated. Nice enough campus, but the town/neighborhood looked worn...a bit rough around the edges. It also appeared that there'd be little to do for students off-campus. Son was not at all interested in setting up a formal tour after our drive-by.
