Impressions: Past and Present

I'd like to know, after surfing boredatcolumbia.net and reading posts by some very depressed people, what students/alumni from Columbia think about it.

What were your expectations from the school? How did you view it's qualities of student life and education, and your future classmates? (before enrolling)

After experiencing life at Columbia, how different are your beliefs from your first impressions, whether they be bad or good.

People who only visited Columbia respond, too.

Thanks a lot!

hmm interesting, didn't realize that boredatbutler was changed

y would u be surprised that people who post there are depressed? if you have nothing else going for you other than sitting around posting BS on there then you have good reason to be depressed.

You should look at the Harvard version of that site. All it is are posts of people who want random hook ups. Does that mean all Harvard students are horny and desperate? Well....maybe...

or maybe browsing right around Final Exam time is a bad way to assess the mental health of the student population :)

to actually answer the question, I expected it to be the hardest thing I did in life. it turned out that high school was harder and more stressful - the college lifestyle really helps you keep the blood pressure down and focuses you more on what's important, on substance (get the work done) rather than style (rules and procedures - the more regimented HS atmosphere).

what did I think of my future classmates before enrolling? that's an impossible question. From my campus tour and a few anecdotal examples, I got the impression that columbia students took themselves less seriously than the students do at other peer schools, which I liked a lot.

bump
come on!
