Improve my 1300/1600 SAT score to a 1450/1600 by Spring/Summer of 2017?

Hi College Confidential,

currently I’m scoring around 1300/1600 on my practice SATs. My goal is to get accepted into the University of Texas at Austin, Computer Science program, but the competitive score is estimate 1450…

I am wondering if anyone can provide me good tips, tricks, strategies, and etc. to improve my score by Spring/Summer of 2017; moreover, I’m a current junior in High School.

I have the Official SAT 2016 College Board book.

Thanks!

Hey!

I’m just a sophomore, but I do have some tips that may help you improve that score that I learned from my sat prep center.

  1. Khan academy is an amazing, free source for materials that you can use to practice all the skills listed that are tested by the SAT. Moreover, they have official college board tests on there (4 to be exact), all for free!

  2. To improve Reading: read! looking at different vocab on a daily basis and different structured plots of different genres can help tackle the reading section. also, it can help you read/comprehend material faster.

  3. Math… practice what you DON’T know; lots of people just practice certain topics, like algebra 1, over and over because they are really good at it, but that doesn’t help anyone. Go over topics you know trip you up.

A “strategy” I use is to write every problem I get wrong so I can review it days later and really digest why I missed it. Was it a timing issue? Was it a conceptual issue? Even if it was a bubbling error, confronting your mistakes is a good way to avoid them in the future. After all, it is your score on the line!

Best of luck!
