I got my SAT results today and I scored embarrassing 1540 points (570 in maths, 470 in CR and 500 in reading). I had done 2 timed practice tests at home before and I got 1850-1950 in them, so my result shocked me massively. Math has always been my strongest subject and I expected to score a minimum 690 on it. Can’t understand how I managed to get 21 questions wrong.
To the point: I am planning on taking the SAT again on the 6th of June and in the fall of my junior year, and I am going to put much effort in preparing for it. How much do you think I could improve my score in the next test? Could you recommend SAT Prep books? Especially for CR. I have Princeton Review but didn’t find it that instructive.
I am extremely grateful for replies.
So I used a website called prepscholar, which, at least it says, you get a full refund if you don’t get your score up by 240+ points. I only focused on writing and CR on it since I’ve never gotten less than a 780 on math and comparing my PSAT score and SAT score, there was some nice improvement. I got like a 62 for CR on the PSAT and an 800 for the SAT. For writing, it went from a 63 to just a 670, but still improvement. To improve CR, I’d recommend studying a lot of vocabulary so you don’t lose points that you would’ve gotten if you’d have put a little extra effort in studying. My PSAT was a 200 and SAT was a 2270 so from my experience, prepscholar is pretty nice. Just make sure to not procrastinate studying over the summer to maximize the amount of time you have.
Thank you!
What is the best method to tackle the passage based questions? Are we supposed to read the questions first and then answer as we read, or the other way around?
I personally just read through passages first and then read the questions. If the question indicates specific lines, I’d go to around that area to see if there’s direct textual support for one of the choices. Another way could be to prove why each answer is wrong and if you can’t come up with any, you pick that answer. But yeah, even though I ended up with an 800 in CR, I think I personally just got lucky since I had never gotten above 750 on practice tests.
