Improve score by 4 points?

So on the October ACT, I ending up getting these scores:

26 Composite
24 English
25 Math
29 Reading
25 Science
20 Writing

On the English portion, without even realizing how much time I wasted, I had 10-15 questions remaining with 5 minutes left, so I rushed on that part, which may explain why I ended up with a 24. English/writing tends to be my greatest strength, so the fact that I got distracted in the middle of taking the test explains why I didn’t do as well as I should have.

I’m planning to retake the ACT in December, so I was wondering if it would be possible for me to increase my composite score to a 30.
How much studying would be necessary?
How should I study for it?

I had a 26 Composite and I studied for 3 months (over the summer), and put most of my works aside. I concentrated on that for the majority of my day, and my score increased to a 33 Composite. I believe it is possible. You just have to put the time commitment, effort, and strategy.

If I were you, I would study for the ACT every other day, because you have to manage your schoolwork, and on the weekends, go full out.

Example:

  • Monday - 1-2 hour practice ( after practice, review what you got wrong, and why you got it wrong)
  • Tuesday - off
  • Wednesday - 1-2 hour practice ( after practice, review what you got wrong, and why you got it wrong)
  • Thursday - off
  • Friday - 1-2 hour practice ( after practice, review what you got wrong, and why you got it wrong)
  • Saturday - 4-5 hours practice (maybe take a full length test) ( after practice, review what you got wrong, and why you got it wrong)
  • Sunday - 4-5 hours practice (maybe take a full length test)( after practice, review what you got wrong, and why you got it wrong)

You have no time to waste, my friend. I believe you can do it!
Good luck!

Thank you!! I’ll try following that schedule.

Yes! you can move your score from a 26 to a 30.

I would start with Math and Science.

The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. If you finished the red book, move on now move on to released tests from 2013/2014/2015.

TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.

English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min

Score your test, and then review only what you got WRONG after each practice session. As tsated above this is important so you can identify and learn what you do not know.

I suggest the following schedule:

Take 1 section each week night/with review for 4 nights/week.

Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.

Track your progress!

Here is a detailed sample schedule to get started, modify it to meet your needs:

Mon: English section with review

Tues: Math section with review

Wed:. Reading Section with review

Thu. Off

Fri: Science Section with review

Sat: FULL ACT with review

Sun: Off
