Hey guys, Checked my SAT score today and I got a 1970! My previous score was a 1630 (october), so I was super excited I improved by so much. I'm taking it once more in December to try and hit 2100+.

October SAT:
CR - 550
Math - 560
Writing - 520
Essay - 8

November SAT:
CR - 580
Math - 670
Writing - 720
Essay - 11
I completed 7 Practice tests from the blue book, and reviewed the answers I got wrong. I also used certain blogs such as "PwnTheSAT.com" to review. I spent about 2-3 hours per day, sometimes even studying during spanish class or lunch.

I'm currently memorizing all the vocab in direct hits 1/2, and Will be doing 3-4 more practice tests before I take the december SAT. Do you guys think I'll be able to improve to around a 2100?

A quick note about the essay: Length and examples are extremely important. Don't expect anything above a 10 if your essay is not two pages long. Also, you can make up your examples, but try and make them about a specific person.
In my first essay (8), I filled about 1.5 pages, and used two examples from the same time period. In my second essay (11), I filled 2 pages and used 3 examples. My first example about a made-up roman general around 40 B.C., my second example was about Lord of the flies (book), and third example was about a made up native american chief who led his tribe into battle.

How did you guys do on your most recently SATs? Any tips for improving?

I agree with al, of your tips, especially for the essay, and think that the most important thing you can do is practice. I think it’ll be difficult for you to improve all the way to a 2100+. Your score always increases a lot faster when you start studying, and then slows down as you reach your limit. And seeing that you’ve already made a 340 point gain, it’ll be difficult to get 130 more, but still possible. You just have to put in enough time, and study really hard closer to the test date. And since you asked, I took the SAT most recently in January, my junior year, for the first time, and got a 2370. My tip - cram as hard as you can the week before the test. Doesn’t sound like it’s gonna work, but it definitely helped me.

I had a similar success story, except at a much higher score. I started at a base score of 1980 with no studying, and brought it up to a 2330.

I agree with all your tips above, but there are a couple things I would add.

-more vocab. Direct hits is good, but not enough. Memorize (making flashcards works the best) all the words in the direct hits books, hot words books, and krieger’s essential. These will be enough to get very few, if not zero, of the vocab questions wrong.

do more practice tests. I did around 17 in all (over the course of 6 weeks). The more practice tests you do, the better your score will become.

And make sure you are going over EVERY question, not just the ones you got wrong. That’s really how you get a high score increase.

you are spot on with the essay (I’m suspecting you’re actually using my guide?)
For everyone else who hasn’t seen it, here it is: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1525053-defeating-sat-essay-2-days.html

Good luck! I hope you get the score you want!

Yes I Did use your Guide!!! Thank you so much! I posted a while back “I will use this on my november SAT”, and it worked. I can thank you for my 11/12, hopefully a 12/12 on my next essay!

Dude, get your maths to a 800 czz thats the section where you can actually score.
My SAT - 2100, Crit- 650, Math - 790, Writ - 660, essay 10.
So, basically all that saved me was my math score.

good idea man, how did you get ur 790 math? I seem to always have trouble with the last 1 or two problems in each section. any idea how to prep for those?

try timing your maths section. say its of 25 minutes then you should be over with at least 20 out of 24 questions by 18 minutes, leave at least 7-8 minutes for last ones, as they are tricky but nothing a high school student can’t solve.
Moreover i would advise you to get your critical up to at least a 600, you shouldn’t have any problem until you practice crit and maths section everyday.

BEST OF LUCK :D
