Just got my December scores and scored a 27. I know this isn't my best and i really need help on the math section. I took 1, at most 2 practice tests before the test day so i don't know if that's enough practice? I have the red book, Barron's and Kaplan. Can anyone suggest, preferably people who score 32+, how i could raise my score to a 31-36 range by February?

E: 29
M: 24 (??)
R: 29
S: 26

I feel like i could really improve my english and reading skills since those are easiest to me. Is there any way to improve science besides speed? Seems like it's most unpredictable. Thanks.

You just need to study a really really really lot. I did it, it works.

I raised my score from an inital 28 to a 32, (however dropped to 26 first, then up to 30). And that was from a horrid SAT of 1760 (and later 1910, still retaking).

Raising your score to above a 31 isn't impossible, it'll just take a bit of work. I initially made a 29 back in october of 2007. I just got my score back from the past dec 2008 testing and i made a 34 so improving your score is possible.

okay, i think one or two practice tests is definitely not enough. If you want to do well on your feb testing date, i suggest you go out and buy one of those 10 full length act practice tests and do 1 - 2 books of it. I bought two of those books and was able to work through about 15 tests before i retook the ACT.

Honestly, the science is just another reading comprehension test that has all the answers infront of you. if you do enough practice tests over it, you should be quite comfortable with it and do well.

For the math section, i believe if you take a look back on what you learned in algebra I, algebra II, and geometry and master those, you should be well off to 30+

English and reading, i can't really speak since i didn't do so well on those either lol. but doing enough practice tests really do help, they're not a waste of time.

Lastly, what you average when you take the practice exam is going to be slightly inflated. I averaged about 34 to 35 on practice exams and i barely made the 34 with a 33.75 composite.

Good luck studying and i hope you do well on your next ACT!

seems to me if you can pull english and math (both the easiest to improve upon) to 30+ you'll be in good shape...reading seems up there, just concentrate on the passages more and if time is a factor, practice skimming (I can attest to that: 27-36 in one month)

as for science, I can't help =/
it's all in the luck is my opinion here

There is no secret. The only possible advice is practice as much as possible.

You'll find that everyone on here has different advice. You can find one person with a 36 that says read the science passages before starting, another with a 36 that says read questions first, and another 36 that says read the graphs first. It's all preference. The only thing that matters is what you are comfortable with.

Do practice tests, get your timing down. Mark which answers you miss, and review those problems. If you are able to consistently practice 1 or 2 months before the test, increasing that score by 4+ points should be no problem.
