ive gotten a lot a mixed feedback on this topic so i thought i would ask it here:

does improvement in grades factor into admissions and if so how much?

also how much more importance do junior year grades hold?

ive gotten a lot a mixed feedback on this topic so i thought i would ask it here:

does improvement in grades factor into admissions and if so how much?

also how much more importance do junior year grades hold?

How bad were the previous grades?

How much better are the more recent grades?

How good are the junior year grades?

Where will you apply, and for what major field?

In other words, there are a lot of factors here.

The best person to advise you on what your HS transcript will mean is your guidance counselor. He/she has years of experience in helping students like you find good places to apply to.

well first semester sophomore year i had a 3.33 unweighted (3.5 weighted) then second semester I had a 3.67 unweighted (3.9 weighted) and first semester junior year i had a 4.0 unweighted (4.67 weighted)

I don’t know if it makes much of a difference for schools that strictly use the cumulative GPA and test scores for admission. That’s what some state schools use.

However, if a student is “borderline” for admissions, it might make a difference.

What is your cumulative GPA and what schools are you considering?

unweighted-3.77
weighted- 4.1

Im looking at a bunch of top Liberal Arts Colleges–but specifically Im not sure yet.

Do you go to a top prep school? If not, your GPA may bar you from the upper crust of LACs (though ED would give you a boost, and LACs are more likely to look beyond GPA to determine yoru personality/character). I just advise you to create a well-rounded list.

But to answer your question, an upward trend helps, but naturally consistant excellence is better.
