Improving 31 composite to 34?

Hey guys! So I'm taking my first ACT on February 12th!
I was wondering, I took my first practice test today and got a 31 (perfect on the math, fyi! yay!) If, for arguments sake, I take a practice test every weekend until my ACT, do you think I could get a score of 34 or above?
Thanks! :]

36 on the math and a 31? That makes things all the harder for you because you have to maintain that perfect score on any test you take. It’s possible, but unlikely in a one month time span, unless you start averaging 34s on your practice tests.

I understand. Well, my breakdown is:
English 28
Math 36
Reading 31
Science 27

I’m not sure why I did so poorly on science. I haven’t had the chance to truly go over the questions. As far as English goes, I’m not very good with grammar, so I’m going to work on that aspect.

I believe in you

Well, I appreciate that piedpilko! :]
To, which I have to also reply “Don’t let him be such a hero!” (H2$ anyone?)

PS Starmies are cooler

If you prep, you can get around 32 or a 33 possibly. Practice tests in the red book are fairly accurate, so unless you improve, you should expect a 30-32.

No, pied, they are so much weaker! I’m a staryu fan all the way!
cjgone, thanks! in your opinion, would a 33 be good enough for Columbia, NYU, or UofChicago?

Hm, so far i’ve been deferred from UChicago and rejected from Carnegie Mellon if that means anything. I have a 34.

Yea I totally agree with ntrading, the english section is the easiest one to improve. Just following the simple rules the barron’s book outlined raised my english score from a 28 to a 35!

Dear Staryulover,

The best prep for the ACT is to take the toughest classes offered at your school. The ACT is curriculum-based; it’s NOT an aptitude test. That said, doing practice tests will help you become familiar with the format and the timing of each section. (My son said he ran out of time on the science portion.) Good luck. Don’t worry. You can always re-test. Check out this link for more info: [ACT Registration : Retake the Test](<a href=“ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test”>ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test). Congrats on that fantastic math score!

Once you take a couple of practice tests it doesn’t really help to just keep taking them. Unless you are coming up with different strategies and realizing which questions you get wrong AND are making attempts to correct those mistakes, it’s not going to help to just keep taking the tests. I suggest you buy a good book (I haven’t taken the ACT yet and I have PR, I can already tell how much it’s helping) and use that to study along with practice tests.
