Improving ACT Math

Yayyy -____-. So, my math score (and science score) wasn't very nice, and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on how to improve it. I'm retaking in June and I recently got a hold of the Red Book and PR :D

Math: 27
Pre-Algebra/Elem/ Algebra: 15
Algebra/Coord. Geometry: 14
Plane Geometry/Trig.: 13

Side notes: I guessed on the last 10 questions because I ran out of time, and I am a horrible standardized test taker >__<. This was my first ACT

That’s definitely not bad for a first time. I suggest you read the PR’s geometry and trig section. Memorize the area formulas and SOHCAHTOA. Also, know secant, co-secant, and cotangent, along with the distance formula. I took it for the first time in April and scored 31 comp and a 31 in math. :)

Thanks mmushtaq! I’ll definitely look over that!

I’m tutoring a classmate right now, and her problem is not thinking analytically. For the ACT geometry, I’m teaching her to break figures into their components. She can do all the math once she gets the figures broken down.

However, it is your first ACT, and everyone’s nervous for their first ACT. :)

ichheissemann, you’re so nice. I wish I had someone who could tutor me. (Hmm, I actually think I might be able to find someone). But, yeah, hopefully better luck, practice, and timing will get me a better score next time. :)
