argg..1st Practice: CR640 ....8th Practice Test: CR640 ... WHY? WHY? any advice?

the night before the test is a little late to start studying. lol, but that's like the pot calling the kettle black, b/c i just bought "12 real SAT's" yesterday..
good luck tomorrow.
PS- at least for vocab, if you're between 2 words, and one of the words you've never even HEARD before much less know what it means, it'sbetter to go with the word you do know.
i'm trying to improve my CR also, but i've had some luck.
last year = 550
practice test last week = 680
today... dont know yet
tomorrow... shooting for 720

The supremely-most-important-element-of-God is that you find where you're messing up.

i keep making mistakes on the the readings..the kind wehre you have to interpret the situation and figure out what the author is trying to say..i guess tahts a little too broad..

okay, heres a question: For the questions that ask you to interpret, should you base all your answers on the main idea of the passage? (So could I eliminate an answer if it contridicts with what the main idea is)

oh yea, any advice how to tell the tone of the author? like in one question, the choice was between critical and resentful? How could you choose?

For tone the correct answer is the never extremes (esp. negatively) and if there are exteremely biased answers, they are probably wrong.

An easier way to find the answer is instead of trying to interpret the right ones, eliminate the ones that suck hardcore.

if you read a lot in preparation for the SATs, the passages will become easier to understand and you'll be able to understand the gist of what the author is trying to convey to you. thus, all the right, or at least some of the wrong answers will pop at you when you choose your answers.

doing massive amounts of practice tests may help some people, but the one sure way to improve is by reading A LOT

my AP lit class forced me to read over 20 books in one semester. when i took the SAT after the class, the passages were easy and familiar. score improvement from 640-740 from 4 months of intensive reading.

it's hard.... i've not broken even 600 yet (well, on my second attempt to the IDENTICAL test :( )...i'm around 560-590ish. it's impossible...i wanna cry...;(

one good advice here:
always always look for what is stated in the passage! a not preferable thing to do is to read the entire passage first and then answer the question
ok..another hint for you
before beginning every reading section, tell yourself that theres only one right answer for each question, and this right answer must be authoritive, that is, it must be directly supported by the passage
some meditation will help you a lot
and for vocab, i have nothing to say other than going through 5000 words list
btw, english is my second language, so probably word-list works for me because of that..i dont know
finally, reading pre-1900s novels also help a lot on reading, because the profusion of convoluted setences and vocabs in books written in this period is ideal for SAT

oh yea, i started speaking english in 2004..in early 2005 i took a practice SAT and got some 1700s..a year later in jan 2006 i took the real SAT and got a 2150 (CR 730)...hope this gives you some positive prospects

I always assume/analyze/think too much.. Except the questions aren't really looking for that. They are looking for what is exactly in the passage.. and no support and/or too extreme = wrong choice..

Oh well, I guess I'll have to read intensely by October!
