My E.C's so far are not really note-worthy, but since I am not a 4.0/1600 case, I'm hoping that I can do something in terms of my E.C.'s to help with my application. Here's what I am involved with so far:

Extra-Curriculars:

Varsity Field Hockey; 3 years
-State Semi-Finalist: '05
-State Quarter-Finalist: '06
Model United Nations
-President
-Individual Best Delegate Silver Medal (U-Mass Lowell)
-4th Best Overall Delegation for Tanzania (U-Mass Lowell)
-Best School Delegation (Northeastern)
Student Council; 3 years
Student Voice
-Vice President
SADD, 2 years
Peer Outreach (Trained Mediator); 3 years

-Four Performances

Other:
-Community Service (not going to list all)
-HOBY Award Nominee
-Part-Time Sales, one year

~Although they seem a bit scattered, I am passionate about Model UN, which is where I have the most individual awards/leaderships positions since I hope to major in International Relations and optimally work at the UN one day.

Just curious, what E.C/.'s would qualify as 'outstanding' ones?

What year are you? How many conferences does your school go to each year? Winning more awards can always be at the back of your mind. ;) MUN is so not about winning, but I must admit I am happy that I've applied to colleges. I have a conference in two weeks and knowing that an award is so unimportant at this point...it's a great relief.

What aspects of int'l relations interest you? I was and still am, very dedicated to human rights. I started my own Amnesty Int'l chapter at my school, and created and am in the process of organizing some activist projects with that. Intiative like this, even later in your high school career, is still impressive. And it means so much too.

^Wow thanks for the response. I am a junior and we attend about three conference a year. This year we are attending the Ivy League Model UN Conference @ Upenn since this was something I had wanted to do and after becoming President, I worked for.

I think I am going to apply to a specialized committee for the conference and I'm not sure which one would be best...any advice would be great!

I'm most interested in possibly becoming an ambassador or UN delegate, I've typically been in the Security Council or something along those lines, but Human Rights is definitely up there.

I'd love to know how you began the Amnesty Int'l & anything you could tell me about that.

Which committees are available at the conference? I've usually done security council too, because I love how small it is. I -hate- GA. Hate hate hate it. For my conference in two weeks I'm on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which only has 6 permanent members, 5 observers. Smallest yet!

Getting involved with Amnesty International was really easy. To have a student chapter, all you have to do is register at the beginning of the year and have an advisor. After that I just got period emails and monthly packets for letter writing and events to keep up with. It's pretty independent and flexible; you can do as much and little as you want. However, mine is not officially a school-sponsored club because there wouldn't be enough student interest. But it's okay, because we don't need money for anything--it's mostly letter writing/campaigning, which costs nothing but postage, and fundraising for causes. I'm going to really try to officialise it this year.

I also get materials and stuff from STAND (the Darfur Chapter) and Oxfam. All of this you just need to register for (online), free, and you get materials.

MUN is a great 'breeding ground' for recruiting members for stuff like this. I've also just mentioned it during a heated discussion on global responsiblity and, voila, I have a new member! ;)

I hate GA...way too many people. I was stuck in that once for my first conference and then Security Council and UNDP (only one year).

For the Ivy League Conference, the available committees are:

International Court of Justice - 9 justices
ad hoc Committee of the Secretary-General
Indian and Pakistani Cabinets of 1971
Historical Arab League

I have to apply for one with a corresponding essay..any suggestions?

People say that she is smart, though she only sleeps 2 hours a day and fails AP US. Help me deal with this dilemma!!! I may die if I do not deal with it as soon as possible!
